Compass Montessori Wheat Ridge Playground
10339 W. 44th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO, 80033
Compass Montessori Wheat Ridge is a pre-K through 6th grade school for 275 children just outside Denver. Our play spaces are too small for the number of children we have and we need more age-appropriate structures for the older children.

Task Update: Map food assets in the community
January 11, 2012 / by groberts
We are still seeking help with meal donations for the April work weekend at Wheat Ridge. Please let us know if you or your business would like to particpate!
See All CommentsHundreds of communities created videos showing why they need a new playground. Five of these communities will receive a $15,000 grant from Let's Play!
Watch NowA playground can be built in a day, but it takes months of planning and hard work. To get there, we've broken this complex process into eight key steps, or Mile Markers, as you can see in this road map.
Of course, planning such a large project takes teamwork. Within each Mile Marker, the Project Leader and eight planning teams, outlined below, complete key tasks, ensuring that no stone is left unturned.
If everyone on the planning committee follows the roadmap and keeps on top of their tasks, they will make building a playground look easy on the big day!
Flash required.
Building a playground doesn't happen alone. It is indeed a team effort. Find out more about the role of the project leader and all of the teams who work together to make playground dreams come true.

Task Update: Introduction to equipment and surfacing
We have received a $50,000 grant from the State of Colorado to resurface the areas of the playground. The design plan will incorporate resurfacing underneath a new play structure and on a small athletic field.
The resurfacing will address drainage issues in the play space.
New play structures will enhance and replace old structures that are too small for the elementary age children we have at school.

Task Update: Introduction to food
In coordination with members of the PTSA and other volunteers from the community, we will provide meals to everyone who attends the volunteer weekend. We are now seeking volunteers for child care to help with the kids who are attending. We will be asking area businesses and parent-owned companies for food donations, so if you are one who can help with this, let us know! Thank you.

Task Update: Select build site and consider big picture tasks
Jefferson County Public Schools owns the property where will be installing new play equipment and surfacing. We are so excited to install swings and excellent climbing structures for our kiddos! They have been wanting a change for so long and our larger elementary kids really have no options for play other than a basketball game. We will organize our community into teams based on the KaBOOM! model and then get the job done according to the project plan put together by PE and facilities staff. Yahoo!

Task Update: Introduction to fundraising
Through a combination of grants and donations, Compass plans to fund the playground project. We are in the midst of an Annual Fund campaign with our parent community for direct donations, and we have applied for a Lowe's Toolbox for Education Grant. We are going to apply for another Snapple and KaBOOM! grant and we have already received a grant for $50,000 from the State of Colorado to resurface the landing areas underneath the play area and the small athletic game space.
